The Questions I Get Asked the Most
In this post, I’ll discuss some of these settings of the X100VI and other Fujfilm cameras, but I won’t cover where to find them—your camera’s manual will guide you there. Learning is best done by doing. Since I have a full-time job that keeps me busy, we’ll keep this blog light and breezy.
How Do I Focus?
I only use "SINGLE POINT" focus mode, and I rarely miss focus. Increasing the Number of Focus Points to 425 helps. Place the focus point where you want the image to be the sharpest.
What Are My Exposure Settings?
F-stop: I use f/5.6 for 95% of my shots and f/2 for the rest. The lens sharpness peaks at 5.6 based on my observations.
ISO: Set to auto.
Shutter Speed: Set to auto.
Exposure Compensation: Adjust according to the scene and light conditions.
Why Do All My Fujifilm Recipes Have DR400%?
DR400% sets a minimum ISO of 500, enabling the camera to "push and pull" the image in the in-camera processor. This lifts shadows and prevents highlights from blowing out. It’s great on sunny days but less effective on overcast days.
Note: Using DR400% and f/2.0 in bright light can cause overexposure. The X100V has a built-in ND filter to help you expose correctly in such conditions.
Why I Don’t Use a Mist Filter?
A mist filter is permanent and cannot be undone. The clarity setting, however, can always be reverted if you shoot JPEG + RAW.
What Accessories Do I Use?
I use a Hoage lens hood with a cheap UV filter and a thumbrest.
How Do I Add a White Frame to My Images?
To add a white frame to your images, use Lightroom Mobile. It has an export setting that allows you to add a border to your photos. This feature is available only on iOS, as far as I know.
